Ali Rose - about me!
Remember when movement felt simple and joyful?!
I describe myself as a ‘Somatic Yogi’, inspired by my ten years of teaching, my on-going training in Somatic movement I am passionate about reconnecting to the joys of movement, stillness and the preciousness of Life.
For me, Somatic Yoga is movement medicine to help heal the ailments of body, mind and spirit which inevitably result from living stressful yet sedentary lives.
‘The body knows it belongs, it is the mind that makes us homeless’
Inspired by these words of the Irish poet John O’Donohue, I enjoy exploring the big questions – ‘how can we heal the separation – of body from mind, people from planet, the sacred from the everyday?’ My path led me to Somatics and learning to listen to the non-verbal intelligence of the body.
I love to work therapeutically one to one people, so that the benefits of a somatic approach can be individualised – after all, no two of us are the same! Whilst these benefits can be experienced by everyone , regardless of age, fitness or gender, I have a particular interest in working with Women and pelvic floor issues.
With a background as a willow basket maker and organic gardener, my teaching aims to be intelligent and soulful , infused with seasonal rhythms, philosophy and poetry.
I have been teaching Yoga classes, workshops and therapeutic one to ones’ locally in the Chepstow, Wye Valley and Forest of Dean area for the past ten years.
I am fully qualified and insured, holding a 500 hour Teaching Diploma with The British Wheel of Yoga. I have completed advance teacher training Well Woman Yoga with Uma Dinsomore-Tuli , One to One Embodied Relational Yoga training with Kate Ellis and Somatic Exercise Coach Level One training with Align Somatics. I am currently undertaking a three year part-time Somatic Movement Therapist Diploma with the Institute for Integrative Bodywork and Movement Therapy.
I look forward to meeting you on the mat!
